HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GEORGES SEURAT!!!

(Click on the painting to enlarge and view)

Dot dot dot dot dot...........

French painter Georges Seurat was born on this date in 1859 and, basically created a new technique of painting. There are others who can explain it much better than I. His method was a series of dots, Seurat conjectured that was how the eye received images. Quite brilliant, if you ask me. At least certainly original!

Stephen Sondheim thinks so as well, he wrote a fine musical about it: "Sunday In The Park With George". Great show.

Seurat died March 29, 1891

Last sunday's "CBS Sunday Morning" had a piece on a man who does portraits out of push-pins--same idea, and quite remarkable, really.
