MIRIAM COOK WALL
NOVEMBER 30, 1912-MAY 10, 1958
Yes that's my mother, born this day 101 years ago. She was a star from the day she was born.
Beautiful, stylish, talented, athletic, and fun. I never knew her to have an enemy. She was loved by everyone.
She was a world-class concert pianist in a line from Franz Liszt and Leschetitzky, a pupil of whom she studied with at Wesleyan Conservatory. Chopin was her speciality.
She was responsible for founding the Community Concert Association in Sandersville, Georgia. She was also responsible for establishing the band for Sandersville High School and for heading the drive to purchase their uniforms. And she was responsible for bringing Frank Marynell to Sandersville to conduct that band.
She was a founding member of The Guild which made sure unfortunate children had dental visits and eyeglasses.
She was often president of the Sandersville Music Club, which won national recognition under her leadership.
And she played the organ at the First Baptist Church from the day she moved to Sandersville in 1932 until her death.
There are only a few of us still living who remember her. But I am one of them. Yes, she was mine for 14 wonderful years.
Gone too soon. I love you, Mama, always. Rest in peace.
