"Miss Preen, you have the look of a love-starved cobra!"
That's the line Kaufman and Hart gave Monty Woolley to say to his nurse, played by Mary Wickes, in "The Man Who Came To Dinner." It's simply one of the most iconic performances of the 20th Century (and a part I have long to play all my life!) Monty created the role on Broadway, and so did Mary Wickes create the role of Nurse Preen. The movie is a scream and also features none other than Bette Davis and Ann Sheridan. Don't miss it if you haven't seen it. (and accept no substitutes, either!)
Monty Woolley, born on this date in 1888. They don't make 'em like him anymore.
Incidentally, Cole Porter wrote "Miss Otis Regrets" especially for Monty to sing!! How 'bout that?
Watch Monty in a scene from "The Man Who Came To Dinner"
