STEREOPHONIC RECORDING

On this date in 1958 CBS Laboratories announced a new stereophonic record that was playable on ordinary LP phonographs, meaning, monaural. In stereo, on the proper equipment, a new rich and fuller sound was heard. It eventually became a standard for record and equipment buyers.

When did YOU convert to stereo??

I got one for my birthday, maybe 16th, so that would have been 1959. It was a mahogony cabinet on legs, a piece of furniture like a small chest. It was not anything like the steros of today. Francis Miller had one so we had to "keep up with the Millers" and get the furniture type.
