HERE'S THE LATEST ON FRED AND WILMA

FRED AND WILMA (MY KIDNEYS) ARE STABLE, SO RELAX.

BUT, the time has come to apply some wisdom to this situation.  Let me explain.

I need to act now to learn about kidney transplant.  No, it's not time for that, but I am told that the process takes a long time.  And there are further complications:

My age (who wants to give a 70-year-old a kidney?)
That's actually what some transplant programs will tell you.  But NOT UNC Hospital, nor DUKE.  And I'm pretty well-connected at both of those places1

So I am going to start the process of transplant education and get the ball rolling so that I am on many lists for a donor.  It is further complicated because I have no living relatives (having been adopted)  And the criteria for transplant donors is quite stringent.

If I get a successful donor volunteer, the could have the operation next month.  So, you understand the problem.

And dialysis is awful and to be avoided.  So since I'm in such good stable shape now, it's best to hedge my bets and get on the lists for donors IN CASE I need one in a year or two.

And that's what happened in my neighborhood today!

God is good.   The light IS on.

Good for you for being proactive. I know that it's hard to think this might be coming, but once again you are taking charge of your health.

On a different subject, it is always amusing when I log on to your blog to see what part of California I am supposedly in now. Seems every time is different. Today, Concord!

Love you, Mary
