Kenan Auditorium at Durham Academy

The festival will present:

The world premiere full staging of John B. Hedges' and Aimee Bender's

A SHIPWRECK OPERA
featuring Tara Sperry, Daniel Cruppi, Shannon French and Maurio Hines,
Emily Byrne, Justin Beaman, Kirsten Sherman Cervati, Chris Yount, Tom Terry

The composer is scheduled to conduct and with Aimee Bender will present
a seminar during the festival, Local composers and fiction writers are urged to attend this session. Exact date of seminar TBA.  A Shipwreck Opera will be sung each night of the Festival at 7:30pm.

As a curtain-raiser to A SHIPWRECK OPERA, we will present a new conceptualization of Menotti's "The Telephone".

We will also present the winner of the Long Leaf Vocal Competition JoAna Rosche, Mezzo Soprano, in Recital on March 17 in the afternoon.

And there will be a Master Class for singers on March 16 – the Masters will be
Mary Gayle Greene, Professor of Voice, Appalachian State University
Timothy Sparks, Professor of Voice, University of North Carolina and Chapel Hill
Mark Hartman, Broadway conductor of “Avenue Q” and “Silence”
Steven Tyler, Broadway Musical Director of “Jane Eyre”, “The Producers”, “Guys and Dolls” and an Emmy Award–winning producer of Dan Rather Reports.
Singers for the Master Class will be selected by submissions from local teachers.

Following the final performance of “A Shipwreck Opera” on Sunday, March 17, there will be a tribute recital honoring Randolph Umberger and Benjamin Keaton, Founders of Long Leaf Opera. Many singers from across the country who have participated in Long Leaf productions will be returning to pay tribute to the Founders of the company.

This Gala March 17th performance will be followed by a Champagne Reception in the Lobby of the Theatre.
The Entire Festival will be FREE and Open to the Public and all events will take place in Kenan Auditorium on the Durham Academy Campus.
