Richard Rodgers was born on this date in 1902. He is probably our most famous composer of popular music.

His writing partners included Oscar Hammersein II, Lorenz Hart, Stephen Sondheim and Martin Charnin, and even himself - when he wrote music & lyrics for one show.

I was privileged to have conducted the last performance of his "The Sound of Music" that he ever
heard. It was at the Equity Library Theatre in New York in September, 1979. He was very kind and complimentary of my work and thanked me for taking such good care of his music.

He died Dec 30, 1979 just a few short months after.
