LEONTYNE PRICE: MET DEBUT

On this date in 1961, Leontyne Price made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. She sang in the role of Leonora in Il Trovatore.

I might add that tenor Franco Corelli made his debut at the same performance. The standing ovations went on the 30 minutes after the performance and marked the beginning of two glorious operatic careers.
