On this date in 1899, Sir Noel Coward was born. Hallelujah!
People always ask me what I think is funny, comedy and such as that. My answer is: NOEL COWARD. He is known as The Master.
Witty, urbane, sophisticated and immensely talented, he did it all. He wrote wonderful plays such as "Blithe Spirit" and "Private Lives", gorgeous songs such as "Someday I'll Find You" and "If Love Were All"; and he acted in all of them as well.
Later in his career, he made a big splash in Las Vegas and on CBS television.
My favorite Coward story: while watching the Coronation Parade of Queen Elizabeth II, the Queen of Tonga rode by in an open coach with her husband. Now, the Queen was about 6 ft 5 inches and her husband was 5 ft 2. As they rode by someone asked Sir Noel who that was with the Queen of Tonga. His reply: "Her lunch."
See what I mean?
