WRONG. I WAS WRONG.
This movie is absolutely charming from start to finish. It is a brilliant script by Nora Ephron and a magnificent performance by Miss Streep. I realized halfway through the film that I was NOT watching Meryl do "another impersonation", but rather, she was BEING the character. And that is the essence of acting: inhabiting the character. Both Streep and Amy Adams are superb. And don't forget the wonderful Stanley Tucci!
The whole thing is a delight, even the soundtrack with Doris Day and Margaret Whiting singing as only they can.
Bravo to all concerned in making this treasure of a movie.
One bit of advice: do NOT go to see it if you are hungry!
Here's the trailer for you to enjoy:

It seems strange for me to say I haven't been to the movies in a while but I haven't. Enjoyed the clip and your positive review. I'll have to check it out because I am not good at watching DVDs.
So you're not a Streep fan Richard? I loved the FLW.
I blogged about it also with the same charmed surprises.... we often see eye to eye!
Thanks for some gret posts of late.
