On this date in 1949, RCA, announced a new 7-inch, 45-rpm phonograph record. Soon, the 45, the record with the big hole in the middle, would change the pop music business. RCA even manufactured a record player that played only 45's.OK, how many did YOU have??

Well, Richard, your use of the word *did* indicates that I don't still have them. About 200. And for the record, pardon the pun, I owned one of those 45-only players. My favorite 45 was one that featured the words "Beep beep" in the chorus, though I can't recall the title. I also owned one of those high-tech plastic pieces that fit on top of the record on the turnstile so that when the record ended, it would automatically push the needle to the beginning and replay for as long as my Mother could stand..Patrick.
hmmmmmmm More than I care to say. I think Elvis' Rubberneckin was the first one I got. Finishing up with lots and lots of disco. lol
I actually did not "own" any . . . however, with stern instruction to not scratch any, I got to play with my sisters' collection. They got them for about a 6 year period mid-60's. This is why I'm the only person I'm aware of of my age who knows what's the flip side of 3 Dog Night's "One".
Of course, this also puts me in an age bracket to explain to the ridiculously young coworkers of mine what a "flip side" is. And those little (in my house yellow) plastic pieces in the middle of the big hole were for. Or what "a 45" means.
Or even, for heaven's sake, that it's called a "turn table" and not a "vinyl player" (true story).
At least 2,500, more every week. It's my obsession. And the name of the record really is "Beep Beep" (by the Playmates).
