Tommy Dorsey (1905-1956)
Born on this date, Tommy Dorsey was the King of Swing, I don't care what anybody else says. He had the tightest band in the business. There was simply none better.
Here is Tommy and the Band in a number from the M-G-M film, "Dubarry Was A Lady" featuring Red Skelton and Lucille Ball. The number was written on Broadway by Cole Porter for Ethel Merman but she didn't make the film. It is sung here by Jo Stafford , Dick Haymes and the Pied Pipers. Catch Buddy Rich on the drums: fantastic!
Just listen to that band. HOT AS HELL!

I love big band music, and remember seeing this movie years ago on TV when I was a kid, thanks for the memories!
